    Desecration of the graveyard

Post by Magnate Sue on Sat May 04, 2013 12:01 pm

Odric once again found himself in his family's graveyard. walking around his destroyed house he came to a cellar door leading under the house. Descending into the cellar Odric circumvented his old storage and came to a 6'5" cast iron safe.
With practiced hands Odric spun the lock combination. The inside of the safe held ceremonial garb used in the burial of accomplished individuals along with two swords used in a blade dance that commemorates the individual's deeds. Odric switched out of his torn peasant garb and dawned the ceremonial garb and equipped the two swords.

As Odric left the cellar he ventured into a sudden downpour. He did not feel the rain falling on him. As Odric continued on through the graveyard a familiar and ominous voice called out to him.

My, my, Odric seems like you're doing well with your second life so far.

Turning towards the voice Odric's expression turned from shock to rage as he beheld the witch doctor that had killed his family and turned him into a zombie.

Odric crouched into a fighting stance. Many questions danced in his head but t he only sound he made was a low growl. The witch doctor's eyes narrowed jeeringly and a chuckle escaped from his lips.

You must have many questions for me. Rest assured they will be answered in time. But for now I only came here to see your progress.

The witch doctor swung his staff in a semi-circle and a magic circle appeared below him. black light emanated from the circle and the witch doctor's figure began to blur.

    Hold it you bastard!

Odric yelled as he began charging the witch doctor. Laughing haughtily the witch doctor's figure disappeared entirely just as Odric reached the circle. As the magic circle disappeared the ground began to shake slightly and smaller magic circles began appearing on the gravestones. The rumbling subsided and an uneasy silence lingered in the air. Odric swung around observing the magic circles on the gravestones. The magic circles disappeared from the gravestones and hands began breaking out of the ground. Odric looked in horror as countless undead began emerging from the ground.

The undead shuffled towards Odric, weapons raised. Odric bellowed a war cry and plunged into the mass, his large sword cutting down many as he passed. The undead were fragile but were very numerous. Soon Odric had several swords and spears embedded in his chest as he continued to cut down the desecrated dead.

Zephyr caught up with the boy at the cemetery, and told him to return home. As he was turning to leave, however, he caught sight of what was actually going on inside of the cemetery.

The first thing he saw was the man he had played a song to a few nights ago. As he was thinking of this coincidence, he noticed the various weapons impaled in the man. Turning his head, he saw another thing across from the man: an army of skeletons. Intrigued, Zephyr crept closer, but stayed hidden from sight. Seeing the dead being knocked over so easily by the man and assuming they were fragile, Zephyr blew a strong wind in that direction.

As Odric continued to push back the undead a sudden wind blew. The lines of undead staggered slightly in face of the gale. Taking this opportunity Odric grabbed the flair gun he had brought up from his cellar and shot a red shot high in the sky. Odric then dropped the flair gun and placed his large sword into its holster on his back and began pulling out the weapons embedded in his chest and hurling them into the mass of undead.
After the last weapon left his hand Odric drew the two ceremonial swords from his back and once again plunged into the undead army.

When Zephyr's gust pushed the skeletons over, the man shot a flare into the sky. The next part was even more interesting: he pulled the weapons out of his chest and threw them at the enemy. Still, the skeletons kept on coming, so Zephyr kept the wind blowing.

The dead continued to wander towards Odric and the wind continued to hinder their movements allowing Odric's twin blades to fell many while the wounds on Odric remained few. Odric spied a few undead wandering away from him and towards a large gravestone which Odric just realized the wind hindering the undeads movements was originating from there

    "...Crap."

The skeletons had started to move towards where Zephyr was hiding. He refocused his efforts to the approaching undead. Upon closer inspection, these skeletons were actually quite scary. Stopping his train of thought, Zephyr blasted the approaching undead with strong winds to hinder their movement some more.

"Could you help me over here!"

Odric heard a shout coming from the gravestone.

    On my way!

The wind kept the skeletons back long enough for Odric to dispatch them.

This wind is good keep it up and I'll take them down!

The Undead continued to surge towards Odric. Odric sticks the twin swords in the ground and then draws his greatsword and sticks it in the ground likewise. He then crouched in a low stance and eyed the undead surging towards him.

The line is drawn! You shall not pass me! Gravestone style: rising blades!

As the undead neared Odric would draw out a sword, cut them down, and then returned the sword to the ground. soon a mound of bodies accumulated but none lay beyond the swords in the ground

As the man defended Zephyr, he came out of his cover behind the tombstone and walked next to the man.

"Thanks a lot. I really needed help."

With that being said, Zephyr summoned a great force of wind to crush the skeletons from the top down. After all, they were only old bones held together by magic.

Odric paused in his line defense to survey the field. 50 undead still crept towards them.

Damn! concentrate your winds in small streams see if your can blow them apart in smaller groups instead of trying to take them all on!

Odric turned to the new voice and saw Raysunko standing up on the hill.

Yes! Go around and take them from the other side and I'll take them from the front! We'll get them in a pincer!

Odric removed his swords from the ground and sheathed them and began charging the undead once again.

Zephyr suddenly thought of something he could do.

"If you guys want to run, I can stir up some dust to blind them!"

All the same, though, he kept launching wind at the seemingly unending waves of the undead.

The world seemed to slow to a crawl. Seconds seemed like minutes. The undead ceased their attacks. No. They ceased everything. The shambling horde no longer moved at all. The were petrified, as if held in place by some unseen force. In actuality, they'd simply been forsaken by time. Blue energy with black shade began to come into view, individually encasing each of the hapless creatures. No longer able to move, the rotting corpses began to decompose. It wasn't a gradual decay. The process hurried along at an unimaginable pace. In mere moments, the undead no longer seemed petrified, they were petrified. Now nothing more than grotesque lawn ornaments, the glow of the energy subsided. Now a bright green glow swarmed the statues, seemingly weighing down on them. The statues cracked, then crumbled before becoming nothing but dust, already being washed away by the rain.

Odric... when you said you were hungry for a fight, you weren't just talking big, were you?

The familiar voice came from an unfamiliar person. Next to a mausoleum, hovering inches off the ground, was Gilgamesh. The rain curved around his form, being denied the chance to fall upon him. The Winged King's appearance had drastically changed in, what one would assume, to be a very short time. This was not the case for, as they would all eventually learn, Gilgamesh was a being that could fit years within moments, if he so chose. Gone were his feathery wings. They were now replaced by leathery wings. They were black, framed in blue, with glowing, red runes etched across them. He wore segmented, red body armor. The ragged cloak that had become as characteristic for him as his wings was now completely whole, repaired. It draped across the top of his body armor and hung over his head, hiding his face beneath it save for red, glowing eyes. On his shoulders were four pistons, constantly discharging electrical energy. He wore heavy, black and blue plated armor over what seemed to be segmented red armor on both legs. Heavy red and blue boots stretched to his knees. Even his arms were now covered, encased in black gauntlets with a blue glow. It was almost as if he were in a power suit. Most noticeable of all was the green glow from his right hand that died away in sync with the energy that had just crushed the statues he'd created.

Gilgamesh drifted towards his Rook. The rain continued to bend and curve around him as he moved through it.

Last we talked, what did I tell you about being careful?

The Winged King turned to look at all those that remained. Energy began to emanate from his eyes and drift from beneath the hood as smoky light.

So what are we doing here? Were they fighting to help you, or fighting to kill you?

    Odric kneels before his king.

My king, the one who turned me into a zombie sent this hoard at me. The one behind me,

    Odric points to Zephyr.

Came to my aid. Those two,

Odric then pointed towards Xanus and the kid.

    They just arrived to aid.

Gilgamesh grinned underneath his hood, though impossible for anyone else to see. The energy wafting from his eyes dissipated and only the glow remained. His demeanor became less tense and with a slight nod, demonstrated that he now understood the situation.

So it wasn't that lady or the guard. I guess that's some good news.

He tossed glances towards those that had helped his Rook. It was an assorted bunch to say the least.

You have my thanks in aiding my Rook. He tends to believe himself in...de... Is that a wolf man?

He drifted towards the being, folding his arms as he did so. Tilting his head to the right, then slightly to the left, before holding it upright once more, he continued.

Everyone gave me a hard time over my wings when I first came into the outside world. I can't imagine the trouble you must have endured. I am Gilgamesh. Who are you?

Odric glanced over to the man who just introduced himself. Standing up he said in a low tone.

Mine name is Odric Malfegor. I'm a rook in employment to that man with the wings. Those undead were created by the man who turned me into a zombie, for what purpose I do not know. He said something about testing how I was developing. By the way that wind helped a lot, thanks.

What the man named Odric said was quite a stretch. After all, he looked human through and through. The only thing that kept Zephyr from calling him a liar was the time when Zephyr saw the weapons impaled in the man's chest. So he chose to believe that. With his question answered, he had nothing more to say.

"Thank you for answering my question, Odric Malfegor. I wish you the best of luck along your way and in the Game of Kings. Unless there is something more you would wish to ask me?"
