    Fateful Encounter Empty Fateful Encounter

Post by Magnate Sue Wed Apr 24, 2013 7:27 pm

Odric left Verina's mansion early the next morning. The sky was overcast with threat of rain later in the day as Odric continued his journey to his old home in a Fringe village cemetery. Once again Odric trudged up the slope past the graves, sepulchers, and mausoleums remained as they always had, monuments holding in time and memories. Odric soon arrived at his destination, his disheveled house. The debris lay strewn around the land in a chaotic display but one spot lay barren, the spot the ritual had taken place that ended him and his family and began his unlife. The space was void of anything but barren land but Odric could clearly remember the magic runes and cries of his family that night. Odric clenched his fist in anger at his own weakness and inability to protect his family.

If only I was strong enough at that time

The overwhelming feeling of uselessness permeated Odric's being. While brooding over his pain, a figure reveled himself from behind a large gravestone. The man sported a rough, scraggy beard on a lean, athletic face. The man wore a full leather battle armor with a wolf kilt around his waist and he held a viscous hooked longsword.

    Are you Odric Malfegor?

Odric turned towards the man while shouldering his sword, Requiem.

    And what if I am?

The man crouched into a fighting position

My contractor gave me only one objective; Die!

Halt! You there! What are you doing?!

The call came from woman draped in a red cape. She wore plate armor, but large portions of it were missing. It served several purposes, as the woman wearing it stated herself. The armor protect her vital areas while still allowing the freedom to move that her combat style demanded. It also distracted her opponents in order to provide additional openings. The eyepatch she wore bore the crest of her family. There was no mistaking this. She was Konstanze von Liechtenstein. Renown for having the potential to become a King herself, but chose to serve as one of her father's Rooks. Her father, King Ulrich von Liechtenstein, appointed by the strongest King to protect the peace and well-being of the city. Konstanze was not one to be trifled with.

She was already drawing her short saber. She would not allowed her authority to be questioned. The scar on her cheek itched. It was warned that a battle may be inevitable.

    Cease your actions at once...

Odric glanced over to the woman who had arrived just as his assassin was aiming to start a fight. Konstanze von Liechtenstein, a name even Odric knew, if Odric wasn't undead he figured he'd be enraptured with her attire. The assassin seemed taken aback by her sudden arrival and in his eye shown a lust for the woman knight. Odric turned to Konstanze von Liechtenstein and spoke,

Milady, Konstanze von Liechtenstein, to humble the cemetery I manage with your presence is truly an honor.

Odric pointed over to the assassin.

I know not who this man is bu-

As Odric was speaking the assassin closed the distance and had thrust his sword into Odric's heart. Quickly turning the blade and unsheathing it from Odric's body the assassin grinned with glee at his accomplishment. Odric looked down with half closed eyes at the assassin and let out a long sigh. Panic and confusion replaced the once gleeful face of the assassin as he saw his critical wound that would fell any mortal seem to have no effect on Odric's condition. Odric's shoulders and abdomen tightened as he gripped his sword's hilt and swung the massive sword down onto the assassin. Realizing the danger the assassin jumped out of Odric's sword's reach by a hairs width, the massive sword left a sizable crater in the ground.

It's rude to stab people in the heart when they are having a conversation boy.

    Odric spat out.

What manner of man can be stabbed and be unaffected? What kind of monster are you?

    The assassin retorted.

Boy you know not who, or what, your target is. What kind of half rate mercenary are you?

Ryusei always takes down his targets! If a hole in your heart wont fell you then I'll just take of your head!

The assassin, newly introduced as Ryusei, charged Odric's position holding his sword off to the side. Bringing his sword up at Odric's neck, Odric lifted his sword's hilt and stopped Ryusei's blade. Ryusei turned on the balls of his feet spinning his blade to attack Odric's neck from the other side. Again Odric moved his sword's hilt to block Ryusei's blade. Odric then violently lifted his sword skywards in a large arc which Ryusei side stepped, another crater formed where Odric's blade landed.

    Arrest them both...

Konstanze's voice was calm and collected. She wondered only momentarily why the main did not perish after receiving such a wound. She waved her saber towards the one that called himself Ryusei. The four guards accompanying her quickly flocked towards their target.

    I'll deal with this one.

She was certain she had figured out the cause of his incredible stamina. Still, a direct attack to the heart. The assassin was not unskilled, the man simply possessed unnatural stamina. She'd see her fair share of battles. She'd seen things normal people would deem impossible. She's also survived them all just as well.

This scar... It's the only scar on my body. All my other wounds heal with a little rest.

She aimed her saber at the man while taking sure strides towards him.

The only difference between this scar and the others is I received it before...

The crest on her eye patch began to glow with a crimson gleam.

You serve a King, don't you? Your ability to shrug off damage means you are a Rook just as I am. Yet you know of me but I do not know of a Set that counts you among its numbers. Who is your King? I am placing you under arrest and your King will be contacted. Though in self-defense, you were told to cease your actions. Since you were capable of resisting such attacks, you had no need to fight back.

It was just as the rumors suggested. Konstanze had a policy of Zero Tolerance. She attempted to convince herself that it was simply about enforcing the peace, but she would dare not speak it, for it would taste of a lie. She was intrigued and slightly insulted. She wore her armor for a reason. Even if she could recover easily, she still felt pain and such a thing would bring her to her knees. How was it that she's never crossed a Rook such as this man? What kind of King was capable of creating such a piece? Was there a King with this much potential, lurking and waiting for the chance to strike? She needed to investigate this and report back quickly.

Odric sized Konstanze up and grabbed his chin as he mused over his situation.

Konstanze, you indeed live up to the rumors, strict and unyielding. As for who I am my name is Odric Malfegor and my king is one who just recently discovered his potential. In respect for the position he has given me I dare not give his name or anything more about him without him present to speak for himself. I will inform you of were to find him so you may question him yourself, however.

Odric glanced into Konstanze's eyes and saw them observing the wound to his heart, filled with wonder, contempt, and what seemed like envy. Odric placed his sword on the ground in an act of submission.

Fool! You're a dead man now!

Ryusei broke free from the guards surrounding him and rushed towards Odric, thrusting his sword as Odric's head. Odric raised his left forearm to intercept the blade. Ryusei's blade pierced through Odric's forearm but was stopped a hairs breadth from Odric's forehead.

Boy, you're the dead man here as far as I'm concerned. Limiter Break 40%!

Odric grabbed Ryusei's sword arm with his right hand and deftly crushed it in his grip. After crushing Ryusei's arm Odric threw Ryusei to the ground and placed the end of his sword, hilt facing towards Konstanze, on Ryusei's torso. Ryusei let out cries of pain as he gnashed his teeth at Odric and struggled to remove himself from under Odric's sword's incredible weight. Stepping back from the caught assassin, Odric gestured towards the wounds on his forearm and heart.

I bet you're wondering how I can endure such wounds. The truth is I am a zombie, a corpse whose will remains. I feel no pain and can not be felled by attacks to my vitals.

    A... corpse?

Inconceivable! How could such a thing exist?! Furthermore, it was completely sentient. Feeling no pain, no threat of succumbing to even fatal wounds, such monstrous strength and still being able to think? That was a dangerous opponent. Her hunch was right. He served a King. What annoyed her even more was what this Odric called out.

Limiter Break 40%? Does that mean that wasn't even half of his strength?!

That was disturbing indeed. She hesitated challenging this... zombie at the thought of what his full strength was. Even more disturbing was that he said his King only recently became one. To draw out this much power in a piece so soon... They both could become a serious problem to her father. The fact that she has no idea of who this King is suggests it may be a natural King's Candidate. All Sets were registered. It was a requirement. No new Kings had been made for quite some time.

Odric Malfegor. You will take me to your King. I would like to speak with him. He will need to be informed of the regulations of Sets and the consequences to adhering to them. Such power does not come without responsibilities.

Odric nodded in compliance towards Konstanze. He waited for the other knights to apprehend Ryusei before picking up and shouldering his sword.

Well then if you follow me I shall take you to him. Oh, word of advice, my king in young and ignorant of the world but he is earnest. He always treats others as they treat him. If you give him hospitality, he'll return the favor. If you throw rules he doesn't understand the reasons for in his face then he will most likely resist and become hostile. While talking with him I suggest giving the reason for the rules before telling them to him so there are no misunderstandings.

With that Odric began leading Konstanze to Verina's mansion. As he walked away Ryusei cried out

Don't think this is over! Ryusei ALWAYS gets his target-ALWAYS!
