It's for creating the special moves you'll use in battle. Right now, we can only use our abilities in the basic way. I'll use your Pathfinder for an example. Right now you can only read the safe and dangerous paths, right? Well, you could make a technique that says, when you're on a green path, since you know it's safe, you lower your guard and be ready to counterattack. So that would be like taking some of your defensive stats and placing them into your offensive stats. On the other hand, if your path color changes to red, you know it's dangerous and have your guard up, readying for danger, taking away from offense and adding to defense.

It just your special moves based on your abilities or skills your character may have.
